Hello everyone, these are my finds for the last 10 days. Slow in the nickel search, only 2 buffalos found but halves appear to be picking up a bit. My search,thanks for reading.
4/7/11-I used penny arcade,then went to my next bank to buy a box of halves(Garda)(6-40%ers,best box in a while)
-Stopped at another bank and bought a box of cents and dimes. The dimes had 2 silvers(1963-D, 1964).The cents had 10 common wheats(oldest 1934) and 6 modern Canadian cents.
4/8/11- Bought a box of dimes(Brinks) from a TD branch on the way home. A quick edge check revealed 2 silvers( 1964,1964-D). I left the balance of the rolls in my truck to look at later. Picked up 4 boxes of halves(Garda)3 from 1 bank, 1 from another. The 1st box had 1-64, the 2nd box had 1-40%er and a 1996-S clad proof, didn't get a chance to look thru other 2 boxes.
4/9/11- Worked a few hours, then dumped at a penny arcade. Picked up about $300 in dimes(garda) plus some customer rolls of dimes,nickels, and cents from a few different banks(no time to search). Bought a box of nickels(Brinks) from each of 3 different banks,didn't get a chance to go thru them. At one branch, an older gentlemen was trying to cash in some change for his grandson. The penny arcade was broken so he tried bringing it up to the tellers. They wouldn't accept it because he didn't have an account. He said he had $9.65 in change. I offered to buy it from him and gave him $10. He didn't have any change so i told him not to worry about it. He was ready to give me his address over 35 cents, i told him it was ok. We shook hands and he was on his way. Anyway I finished the last 2 half boxes from yesterday. The 3rd box had 3-40%ers and a religious metal. The 4th box gave up 1-40%er and a gold plated counterstamped 1983. Also, i went thru the rest of the dime rolls that i left in my truck from yesterday. Found 3 more silvers that were missed on the edge search because of dirty edges. They were 2(1964) and a 1960 for a total of 5 from that one box. Went thru 2 of the 3 boxes of nickels late in the night. The 1st box had a 1985 Canadian and a foreign coin i've never seen before. I did some research and believe it's a Ethiopian 25 cent piece,worth only a few cents. Maybe someone can confirm it in the pics below. The 2nd box produced 4 war-nickels(1943-P,1944-P,(2)1945-P).
4/10/11- I went thru $200 in dimes from yesterday, no silver. Moved furniture most of the day, then finished the last box of nickels from yesterday.(No war or buffalo, only 1987 and 1995 canadians). Checked the change that i bought from the older gentleman, his count appeared to be within a cent.( Found a 1941 wheat and a 1974 Canadian). Went thru the customer rolls of coins(nothing in the dimes or nickels, the cents only had 2 common wheats and 2 Canadian cents).
4/11/11- Bought a box of nickels and dimes(Brinks) I did an edge check on the dimes,didn't spot any silver edges. I'll check them again before dumping. The nickel box didn't produce much until near the end of the box. About 40 rolls in, i found a dateless buffalo. Then, in the very last roll, while searching in the fading daylight in my pickup truck, i saw the familiar obverse of another V nickel, It ended up being a well worn 1905, my 3rd in 3 weeks. Also, on the way home, I made a deposit into my checking and bought $10 in cents(Garda) (5 common wheats-oldest 1936 and 8 Canadian cents-oldest 1962)
4/12/11- Bought $10 in cents(garda) on my way home from work(7 common wheats, oldest 1934) and 4 Canadian(oldest 1944). Used penny arcade at another bank(found a copper plated 1943 on the magnet) and a 1964-D in the return. Made one more stop and bought a box of nickels and dimes(Brinks). Did an edge check on the dimes and saw no silver. The nickels produced 2 war nickels(1943-P,1944-P),a 1990 Canadian nickel and a 1999 Bermuda five cents.
4/13/11- Used penny arcade, found a cent flattened out to the size of a nickel in the return. The teller asked me how long i was saving the coins, i told her a few days. She looked a little suspicious so I then explained to her that i buy boxes of coins to look for the older ones. She tells me that she once found a high grade 1901 Barber dime in the return. I told her i look for wheat cents too, she gave me one out of her tray with my change.
Went to a 2nd bank and bought $100 in dimes(garda)(skunk) and $10 in customer rolled cents(7 wheats including a 1925-S and a 2006 Canadian). I made one more stop to buy a box of halves(Garda).It contained 2 bens(1960,1963),2-1964s, and 2-40%ers(1967,1968-D). They also had $60 in customer rolls(skunk).
4/14/11- Bought 1 box of halves(Garda)(skunk), then deposited 2 bags at another bank. Bought a tray($20) of nickels(no wars or buffalos)
4/15/11-Bought a box of halves(Garda)from one bank and searched them(skunk). Returned a bag of halves to another bank and stopped at a third bank to pick up 3 more boxes(Garda)(1st box had 5-40%ers and a 64,2nd box #5047 had 1-64,3rd box(in brown and white wrappers instead of yellow and white had only 1-40%er,a 1966. Also bought $10 in customer rolled cents, it only yielded 1 wheat and 1 Canadian. Earlier, i picked up a box of nickels(Brinks). I found only 1 dateless buffalo but upon closer examination it appears to be a 1913(variety 1). The words "Five Cents" is more to the right on this nickel, i'll post a pic below if someone could confirm. If so, it is my 1st type one buffalo nickel.
