This was yesterdays 6 hour grid on the Trackway Site. Day 1 was just scouting this area.
Plenty to dig including lots of lead pieces.
As we started the grid next to where the drilled beans met the oilseed rape we decided to divert up every little patch that had failed. This tactic bagged us the best Roman silver of the day, in an area we otherwise wouldn't bother with & it was tight under the growing oilseed rape plants. Had they not failed at that point & 1 more row of plants had grown we would have missed it forever. (its was outside the known mapped scatter)

A nice SCARCE Roman denarius: (This one is a new Caesar for us, he never made Emperor)
Obv: L AELIVS CAESAR bare head right minted Rome AD137
Rev: TRPOT COS II Concordia enthroned left holding Patera and resting left arm on Cornucopiae.
They are asking £170 for the below example in far worse nick;

Lucius Ceionius Commodus took the title L Aelius Caesar when he was adopted as Caesar by Hadrian in Jul/Aug AD136.
The coin was minted after he was given his 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Consulship on 1[SUP]st[/SUP] Jan AD137. However, he had a weak constitution and his
Health problems were not helped by an addiction to luxury and rich feasts. He died suddenly on New Year’s day AD138 from a
Massive haemorrhage and thus never took over as Emperor from Hadrian as was intended.
It's rare to get Bronze Age, Celtic, Roman, Saxon, Medieval, Tudor, & Georgian all in 1 day, we are on a roll!
