The Treasure of Captain William Kidd.

? I smell Gold 😉
Thinking about this Lowe Fella, Is it Possible Lowe was an Alias of Kidd? Thinking about it. England sent everyone after him including the kitchen sink. What could a privateer of done to warrent such attention? I'm sure most Privateers were probably given a pretty long leash.. His transgressions must of surpassed anything the English thought anybody would do.
You never do hear much about the trial of Kidd. Pretty much caught fast trial and hanged. He must of done something so outrageos that even a possible bribe of all his treasure wasn't going to get him out of.
He must of been involved with St Paul Island and causing ships to intentionaly wreck.
The 2 maps with pretty detailed drawn Islands but with different headings.
That must of been the reason they hung him.
I guess pretty much conjecture. I guess you would have to believe Kidd would of Intenionall caused ships to wreck on reefs?

If you are seriously interested in the answers to your musings, I posted information on several reliable books on the subject. Kidd's trials were typical for the time - and that probably includes the suppression of exculpatory evidence. There is a volume in the Notable British Trials series about Kidd in court. And Dover reprinted The Tryal of Captain William Kidd for Murther & Piracy, edited by Don C. Seitz in a very affordable paperback edition. There's also:

Good luck to all,

Interesting, unfortunately I have found alot of books just to be simply unreliable

Bell_Island_Newfoundland.jpg

Probably been pretty much scraped clean by locals, probably a few spots left for someone with a trained eye.
Oh well, good luck on your quest

Seems a little far North. Why do you think Bell Island?...
I think maybe people have thinking about Kidd in the wrong way, I think peple see kid as plundering the seas of the Caribbean I think he was working North around St Paul Island most of the time. Probably fleeing South after the English caught on to what he was up to.

You hear so many stories of Kidd North of The Border, It must of been his area of operation.

Oh well most likely most of the gold is gone anyways, I am too dang old to go looking for the rest of it. So Good Luck.

Yes, there are many unreliable books out there. That's why I recommended good ones. There's a good reason Capt. Kidd and his ilk were called "Red Sea Men."

Yeah I am sure you can really get into this stuff if you want to.
Really never researched Kidd too deeply, just because I figured most of the treasure he ever burried was probably recovered by now.
Mostly saw "The Kidd Map" and was studying it. From all the clues it pointed to Hateras Island, and Hateras Island made the most sense.
Just started thinking about it more and Bell Island seems to of come into play. But that probably has been scraped clean. Who knows more probable, there is Kidd related pirate Treasue at or near Bell Island than anywhere else besides maybe Principe.

sorry to say, but Hatteras has no Rocks 3' wide, let alone 3 inches wide. it's all sand

Just cross posting this after I put it on the other thread where the poster is also claiming they have the location of Kidd's gold.

You guys need to get together and have a candlelit dinner or something.

Please explain the connection to Captain Kidd. The coins found were minted 80 to 150 years after Kidd's death.

Ismellgold, we are a family friendly forum, please post accordingly.

Interesting Article
Rhode Island huh?
Out of all the crazy burried Pirate Treasure stories this actually sounds plausible.
Not sure it was KIdds but I am sure Kidd had many associates probably doing the same thing.
Kidd made his home in New York, stands to reason he & his crew were probably coming or going north from there alot.

I SMELL GOLD

😉

Interesting I wasn't aware of all the history surrounding Rhode Island. No Doubt Kidd spent alot of time there.
Newport Sounds Interesting

If you don't believe that this treasure ever existed, that's OK. And if you think the Kidd/Palmer charts have nothing to do with Kidd, that's fine too. My simple question is this: If Kidd did hide a treasure, and if the charts are genuine, then where do you think Kidd may have hidden it?

Here's clues that we know:
1) The references to turtles and coral reefs suggest a tropical location.
2) The island has a northern lagoon sheltered by a rocky reef.
3) " " " a central mountain range with a rift running north to south.
4) " " " sand and coral to the south. possibly a sea turtle nesting site.
5) " " " a safe anchorage area near a cove to the south/west.

(Note: If you feel this survey isn't worthy of your time or effort, please refrain from posting negative comments.)

Hi ISG.
I think Newport would have been too populated to secret a treasure there. (Even in the 1690's). One of the outlying Islands would be a more logical location.

Dig the hole during the day Bury it at night
I am sure you could bury things in the most busiest cities if you were sly about it.
Many stories out there of mysterious lights at night in some Kidd Treasure Island stories.
I think I am going to stick with he Newport area.
Wasn't 2 of the guys hung with Kidd French?
Looks like the French were familiat wih Newport.
Just a hunch.
  • In 1686, 45 French Calvinist families, or Huguenots, settled in East Greenwich, which is still called Frenchtown. However, the settlement was short-lived due to a land ownership dispute.

No, I think there was Treasure on Hateras Island at one time. Probably long gone by now though.
I think it is also likely that Kidd & asociates had stashes in Multiple locations.

Intersting and strange. I can't find anything on the 2 Frenchmen that were hung wih Kidd?
I have kind of gone away from Principe with my full concentratration on Rhode Island as the best possibity for something of value burried by Kidd or his associates.
