"THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF COLONIAL SCHOOL DROPS " (140 YEAR SPAN) Updated

Hi all,Got up early today and headed for the local site at Garden Gully. On the hill on the Northern end is a school which dates back to 1863.The school has not been used since 1993 but is a private employment agency now.the existing buliding dates back to 1880s but there was a first school here before that and the ruins can been seen in one of the pics. The other side of the hill was a Gold Claim owned by the Stanfeild and Jackson Mining Company. The area was mined until 1953.The school hall which is a wooden structure was used by the locals for many different purposes.Community groups and clubs and returned service men and what ever else.Heepa of pic and finds .later today i will going back for some more huntings

thanks for looking TINPAN

Heres a a hand-made brick from the site. The red clay brick dated 1860's i can date date the brick by the uneven colour. In the 1860 hand-made bricks were stacked in a circle and fire hardened.Theres was no way of controlling the temp, so bricks on the inside where harder and a much darker colour and the outside bricks softer and a lighter colour.there a pic of the a few other finds and more to come later

Great diggings Tinpan! Some very nice old coins and relics.

Mike is right, that new camera of yours takes great photos - any chance you can take a photo of the same subject with your old one and post em up for comparison
