My son captured this event on his patio, and I thought I would share with you all, too!

Great Googly Moogly! :help:

What the heck are those monsters?

They are cicadas molting.

We had a load of those a few years ago. Buzzing so loud you had to stay inside. Gary

I saw a "shell" on my porch yesterday. I need to get that "shell" before it disappears. Neat!!!

Alien life form and definitely a cool bug.

I remember seeing something like that on the news some years back, where an unusual amount of cicadas were around that year driving people mad by all the noise. It was like mana came down from heaven for all the skunks and raccoons to have so many of them to feast on also.

We were supposed to have them this year. Only a few have showed up so far.

There has been a couple of them buzzing here lately.
Seems like every several years they turn up in high numbers.

All I saw was a few shells on one of the pine trees in my backyard. What time of day did you get the shots of the emerging cicada?
