Has anyone made this specific upgrade? If so, would you mind sharing both the good and bad of it?

I've got a good grasp on the DFX and have the multiple boxes of relics and trays of jewelry to show for it. What draws my attention to the V3i that one of my hunting partners owns is not only the three vs two frequencies, but his ability to bypass some very specific trash that still gives the DFX 300 a solid, non-garbled (if that's even a word) tone as well as solid, very convincing + VDI and pinpoint when I've got it tweaked in areas such as DC Phase and VCO (for example).

Any constructive input would, as always, be greatly appreciated.

Well I haven't owned a dfx but I do know they r good machines, however I do own a v3i with a couple ad ons to it & its a great detector with endless options to make it very versatile in any situation

I upgraded from the DFX to the V3i thinking that my knowledge of the DFX would make the transition to the V3i easier. I came to the conclusion that all it does is give you the mindset needed to learn the V3i. It is not, as some people seem to think, just a DFX with three frequencies. It is, however, a quantum leap in detector performance. You should go into it understanding that your learning curve is going to be pretty much the same as every body else that buys a V3i, regardless of their detecting background.
Having said that, it is no secret that the V3i is a very capable detector, so only you can decide if you are willing to put the time into learning it. But, as you've indicated, if you do, it'll add a new dimension to your hunt.
Good luck.

I had a DFX and never used a V3i, but I'd say, go for it.... You wife or girl friend will only waste it on shoes or clothes at the Dress Barn.

Hahaha so true

Buy it fuzymonkey. There are great machines and I love mine. You will have a learning curve at first but it will not stop you from using it right out of the box on a preloaded program. You will be tweaking that sucker into whatever you want it to be.

Your understanding of the DFX and it's programmability will make an easy transition to the V3I. Let us know if we can help you with your purchase.

Do you just jump from thread to thread babbling useless information?
