OOoohh ooohh, I know , I know. It's commonly known as a "Washington Quarter". Now how difficult was that, eh ? Nice find. How deep was it ?
You’d think people would’ve stopped using coins for reference to avoid these types of things happening...
Try taking a rubbing. It may bring out details that are almost impossible to see.

That coin could be it. Something else to consider, South Carolina was settled early and of course pirates were there! Ar har! It could be a late medieval token or jetton. Mainly made of brass, they circulated well into the 18th century.
I didn’t clean it came out like this. Which is wild In the salt. Not magnetic it’s super thin on edge similar to a hammered “Not saying it is a hammerd” maybe copper or bronze not sure but copper eats up badly here like this large cent View attachment 1693524
