Well my fellow T-Net friends I have located another vacant lot in my little town. I have gained permission from the owner, (a local attorney) my first afternoon at this place I did a quick sweep and discovered it is going to be a challenge. It seems at one point there was an automotive shop next door and they must have thrown all there scrap into this lot. I have already dug two buckets of scrap with only two wheats to show for it :'(
But enough of my whining.

While I was detecting this lot the other next door neighbor pulls up and asks if I have found anything, and I tell him the same story about the scrap.
He then says you should detect my yard, this place has been here a long time and has some history. Besides I'd like to see what you find here.

Here is where things get a little weird, you see his place is a funeral home located across the street from the county court house.
I did a quick sweep of the area and only heard a hand full of solid signals, but the problems is all the attention that I drew while there.
Already passer byers are giving me the looks and occasional comments about being there, and I haven't even dug a target yet. So I guess my question is should I pass on this opportunity or go for it?

Here are some pictures to add to the story:
My wife came by and took these and can't believe I'm even considering the idea.

Thanks and HH
Dan

Update:

Ok folks went back to the funeral home and dug a few targets, then the rain came so I had to quit.

As you can see this may be a good spot after all, I think I can put up with a little ridicule if the finds are going to be like this.

Not sure if you can make out the large coin on the left, but it is a 1902 V nickel. And the ring is 14kt electroplate, OH WELL its a ring.

Three wheaties 1923s, 1925s and 1951s a cool corsair and the largest bullet casing I've dug, it measures 1 3/4"x 1/2" and appears to be from the 1800s.

I think I'll will take my time at this place so not to miss a thing.

Thanks again for the encouragement.

HH
Dan

Good one!

Get to digging!!!!!

If anyone asks...you are working for the owner.

ROFL, that's hilarious. I say md the heck out of it. The owner gave you permission. I would wear a shirt that says CORONER on the back. :laughing7:

ROFLMFAO :icon_king: there were some really funny comments on this thread that I got a good kick out of, to name a few--
Jaw bone,gold tooth
You'll be here soon enough
Tape measure, your next
Ring, body parts
:D :D :icon_jokercolor: :icon_king: :icon_jokercolor: :icon_jokercolor:
and of course many others

Great title and pic of you hunting the beauty parlor for the dead, I look forward to seeing some more finds from there.

Dig, dig, and dig some more. It's not a cemetery; there's no one buried there. If you've got permission, dig until there's nothing left!

Suprisingly the general public will pay less attention to you if you wear a blaze orange traffic vest or similar. Most people will think you are a surveyor or a city/county employer. I found this out one day hunting a local park(with official permission) when a couple ladies asked me if I'd found anything and about my city job. Also you are more visible to traffic when hunting by roads. Hinding in plain site...works well sometines.

Cool looking house. I'd dig away! Keep us posted.

I would put on my Grateful Dead T-Shirt and if anyone ask you what your doing tell them they lost a key to a coffin and your looking for it... ::)

Wow Guy's, These are all great ideas  Glad I posted it now, I was a bit reluctant as I had never read that anyone had detected a funeral home.

For sure I'm going to hit this place for all its worth and have fun doing it, because whats the first three letters of FUNeral. FUN

Glad everyone got a laugh out of this post. I will start a new post when the new digs pop up.

Your a great bunch

Hey Dan......In odd places like that, I like to get out at first light on a Saturday, or Sunday........never see anyone out that early.

This is a great idea! I'm going to look for one at an Outdoors store, with some pockets in it.
Thanks for posting it.

Orange vest and a white hard hat. . . . .

Works every time

Hello Dan!
Great story! Great location!

If anyone asks what you are doing simply tell them the owner hired you to find a set of gold teeth one of his clients lost.
That should shut them up. :toothy1:

Don't worry about what people think. You have permission and that is that. It's not like it's a cemetary. I would even go as far as wearing a backpack with one of those fake rubber hands sticking out of it.

Hey, just MD the place. If it bothers you, string up some yellow tape around the yard, and wear a jacket with "Crime Lab" stenciled across the back. They won't bother you anymore.

A friend bought a house in Ohio where I am from that was a funeral home, awesome house I must say, huge living room, huge garage, just a great house. She found a portable fold up examination table in the house, antique, that is cool. She let me detect her yard, I only found 3 pennies but it was at night, LOL. Rain is your friend, waterproof your detector and detect in the rain, not many people out in the rain. I have detected in some of the worst weather anyone can imagine within reason, if you and the detector are dressed for it, it is much better and easier than you think. HH, Mike
