As I feared, both boxes were skunks. Did find a very strange half that was missing the date and liberty around the perimeter of the coin. Does anyone know how that may have happened. I have attached a picture

Struck through grease

Looks like you have yourself an error coin. Can anybody back this up a little more? Perhaps bring that to the LCS to see what they think?

Looks like an error called struck through grease. The die was filled with grease do not all the design made it to the coin. I keep them if they are dramatic. Yours looks pretty good.

I had one of those and i thought the same thing about the grease. If you loo
k at that area closely with a magnifying glass you will see thousands of taps and gouges. Like it was stuck under the wheel of a coin cointer. If you are in the southeast it could be the same one i threw back.

I searched for other examples of "struck through grease" coins on the web and this seems to the cause of the error. I will have to bring to a coin shop and have it checked out.
