I need someone who knows a thing or two about rocks.

A couple months ago I was out looking at rocks. This is one of the ones I found. I immediately thought it was petrified wood. After getting it out of the rock tumbler recently, I am not so sure what it is anymore. It looks like tiger’s eye, but I’m not certain. (Pictures are after rock tumbling.)

Any idea what kind of rock this is?

Found in southern Idaho.

I’m not sure it’s either one. It’s really pretty though, whatever it is. Nice find.

Did you take a pretumbler photo.
Doesn't really look like the typical Tiger Eye stones.
It's a nice looking banded stone.

Trying to find one, I don't remember if I took a pre tumble photo or not. I will say not much changed in its shape after tumbling. It was already worn down, makes sense, because I found it near a creek.

Here's a comparison to a real tigers eye. Suspect stone is on the left. Real tigers eye on the right.

I think your first idea was correct. It looks like petrified wood to me.

Yeah, I think you’re right, I think I’ll just call it petrified wood then.

Thank you all for getting back, it’s a very beautiful rock.
