Today dawned bright and sunny after yesterday‘s rain so we set off eagerly across the grass fields… started Finding bullets, so changed direction back towards the truck, I got a poor signal and we were in 2 minds whether we dug, but as the digging was easy I did, about 8 inches down up popped my second ever hammered! Oh my days! Himself nearly had a tantrum as he had only dug 1 musket ball all morning (other than the rifle bullets). After lunch we decided to go for a walk round the field and come back thru the other grass field where we found the old horse shoe. The field gave us a couple of buttons and 2 toasted coins. We crossed back into the other grass field and found more musket balls, then I got a great signal, and oh my, we had no idea what this coin was but it was silver 😆. The perfect end to an awesome day.

Not sure on the I’d of the hammered… but the silver coin is a Philip & Mary 1554 undated shilling…!

Mackerel, Blossom! I knew you would find something banner worthy! I know you may be a little humble about it, but it is the way it works on this site! Words escape me! That coin is worth big $$$$ (Thanks, PepperJ for the link!)!!!!!
Uh, himself is going to be a little green now. :happysmiley:

Ha😆 i couldnt of done it without your inspirational advice 😆 Himself was beside himself with envy… he kept muttering “ but its got 2 faces” over nd over😂😂 I obviously was very gracious nd let him hold it for as long as he wanted 😇 xx

Thanks all for the comments, just FYI one has gone on sale today … here is the screen shot…. Not that we would sell, but just so you can see it does have value
Changed my initial vote to BANNER! They are both OLD, RARE, BEAUTIFUL, AMAZING CONDITION, AND VALUABLE! Could not ask for anything more than that. Well ......... maybe just one thing, I could have found them.

Congrats on a FANTASTIC find !
Well ... it looks like your coin's a little bit better find than the 1947 Wheat Cent I found last Saturday :BangHead:
Bless u! Thank you x but A find is a find! Honestly i treasure every bit of lead i find, just because in some small way its a link to something, someone was doing long before i just happened to wander over it x

A real hard-core hunter that has a couple of dozen golds to his credit said to me.
"Lead is your friend."

Blossom,

Another great hunt with fantastic finds. You have been killing it lately, definitely jealous of your hammered coins. The only way I will find a hammered coin here in Ohio is if a take some pocket change and one of my hammers and make my own. I appreciate your posts and great pictures. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

Ah thank you! x it’s Truly amazing to find these little bits of history, and we both feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to walk the little bit of England that we do x 😍

That’s very cool! Congratulations! I bet you are a proud peacock. (Um don’t strut around too much or himself will be having you do something like cook or dust 🤣)
