Todays thought

Re: Today's thought

a quotation from Robert Louis Stevenson: “There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy.”

"Make yourself happy without hurting others, then help others be happy without hurting yourself". ~anon

One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy;
One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself.

Re: Today's thought

That is sooooo true ! 99% of the time! :icon_sunny:

Re: Today's thought

It isn't what you have, or who you are, or what you are doing,
that makes you happy or unhappy on a day to day basis.

It's what you think about.

Re: Today's thought

One of my fave poems:

AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE SHORT CHAPTERS
by Portia Nelson

I

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost ... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.

II

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place
but, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

III

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

IV

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

V

I walk down another street.

Stuff I wonder about...

How do you know when you are out of invisible ink?

Re: Today's thought

Art is a internal process which wishes to be observed. I don't expect it to thank me, but it gets what it wants when I pay internal attention to it.

Re: Today's thought

I am glad I lived in the 1950s and 1960s.
Today Superman cannot find a phone booth.
What is Clark going to do, ask to borrow a cell phone?

Even 10 yrs. ago my battery died in downtown Portland on a weekend.
I looked and could not find a phone booth to call AAA.
Went to the Police Dept. and they were locked up but for an intercom.
The guy there said "Go away or you will be arrested".
I just asked where I could find a pay phone.

I miss Ma Bell and the old phone booths.
Superman and Dr. No would be lost today.

Re: Today's thought

Who gets the money when politicians promote themselves?
Millions I have heard.
Where does it come from?
Someone pays and someone gets.
