XP Deus II v0.6 with 11" Coil
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Tried a big field which looks ready to plant & probably was too dry to do anything with. It was hard work getting some finds out the clay but 1 hour into the hunt I managed to pull out a shortcross hammered
This was a very low priority field but its worth the punt this time of year with no other choices. Based in what we found or more to the point what we didn't find or see its still very, very low on the list. We searched the far corner which seemed to have some iffy cropmarks but they turned out to be likely Bronze Age. (9 man hours)

Bronze foot of a large Medieval Cauldron
1 Roman Bronze Coin pictured in Dads hand (his find)
Found a 1794 Halfpenny Token, hard to see, but the link shows a good one:

Buttons
Small Medieval Horse Harness Pendant
Hammered Penny of John 1199-1216 ;D , RAVF of London (although it maybe Henry III of the same moneyer & mint) :-\

That's why we try them, just in case it turns out to be a better area than our research tells us. This is not a good area, I just lucked in with a random coin.

Still lots of area to sample, but need some rain first, plus we have the other 'Random Field' to finish which should pop up a few other good finds from any period 8)

You know how it goes, I just choose the right place to grid but it took 1 hour & then nothing for a further 3+. (would be easy to wander with nothing)

Its in the middle of no-where, but what was surprising was the number of buttons without a few more other finds :icon_scratch:

Lovely finds today Cru! :notworthy:
You and your Dad did well . . . considering the dry conditions!
Love the in-the-field photos, we don't see that very often from you!

I really like this piece . . . is it a button? :icon_scratch:

Cheers,
Dave

Yeah, a Tombac with some tinning

Nice photos and great hammered.

I would use the 15 inch dd coil in those fields..

That's it, I'm packing.
I like my Guinness cold.
Ice cold.
Where it takes a couple of minutes to pour it correctly.
Not like how it's done out here.

Its quicker with the 11", that one I leave until I've cleared it.

I commented on your last Shortcross how much I like the 'Bust',

I'm not skilled enough to know if the bust is King John or Henry III as both Kings had the Obverse Legend as HENRICVS REX (plus a couple of other Kings as well). The easiest way to tell is by Moneyer & Mint but both Kings had the same named Moneyer & Mint (in this example). So then it comes down to styles of letters & bust types & this is an art I've yet to gather 100%. I'm 80% happy its John but could be wrong. :read2:
