Treasure Hunt Championship?

I spent the holiday hunting a kayak park, but gave up after a couple hours because the water was running too deep and fast. We have some serious flooding issues in NW Arkansas right now. So I took my handful of found change and several dozen bottle caps back to town and stopped by a thrift store, where I found something I thought was interesting. It's a nice bronze belt buckle for an event I've not heard of. Anyone know of it or participated?

It was too good to pass up for $3, so I considered it a good day overall. Good hunting to you all!

Very Nice Find! I've got one just Exactly Like That...Never been worn. Then another one out of Illinois from 1977.

they held one in Ma. also - they put out a magazine and I am on the cover of one - I would love to get a copy
I was like 17 I think - I was actually a hunt marshal - made sure others filled their holes and helped others that had a problem
lost their digging tool or lost some other item etc

It says 1979 rite on the buckle ..... engraved onto the Texas shape
