Tribe found in N. Indiana!!! Also, token & mystery ring.
SHORT VIDEO of my detecting spot:
I hope everyone is well. My family and I just returned from a vacation in my hometown area of LaPorte, Ind.
My wife and daughter went to Chicago a few days to spend money, and my son and I fished a lot.
I had some old late 1800's maps and had intended to track down an old long gone school to detect. I soon found it was located in a corn field which was now about 9' high. Needless to say, that was disappointing.
With all of the running around and visiting family and friends, my detecting time was very limited. I was able to gain permission to detect the old late 1800's house as seen in the video. It is located in a very small town about 100 yards from an old train stop and tavern. I was only able to detect the front yard since the back yard was overgrown. Within 5 minutes I had an IH penny, so I was very excited. I found some nice stuff in this yard, and can only hope to detect the backyard some day.
Here's my finds:
*FIVE IH pennies!!! : 1865 , 1889 , 1891 , 1902 , 1906.
The 1865 is my oldest IH so far. Ya-hoooooo!!!!
*1915 Canadian One Cent (holed).
*A 5 cent Bar Token- "Good for 5 cents at the bar - John T. Hernigle"
I'm hoping to track this name down to possibly the original tavern name a few doors down. I'm guessing the token is early 1900's ?
*1920 Merc
*1953 & 1956 Rosies
*1944 war time nickel
*20 Wheats!!! - Some dates are: 1910 , 1914 , 1917 , 1918 , 1919, etc.
*A MYSTERY RING (silver).
I could really use some help on IDing this one. I think it may be a ring made from a coin.
It is slightly smaller than a nickel, and slightly larger than a dime. I can see a date of "1916" and possibly some letters of "liberty".
A neat find no matter what!
*A 18mm flat button w/shank ' "Warranted Rich Orange" back mark.
*Old brooch with colored stones. I'm guessing there was a large rectangular stone in the center at one time.
*Asst'd other pieces.
Thanks for looking Folks. Have a great week.
