We were warned by this crop circle July 2019

Apparently the "spike protein" is the weakness of the virus. If you can neutralize the S protein the virus can NOT enter a host cell and replicate. I knew when I first saw this glyph it was a bio-hazard warning.

Uh, but it's Humid in the South. [grin]

Too many conflicting "solutions" to the problem. However, I have been told that the hotter the better - IMO, I agree but, I'm not a virus specialist. I'm just going off what is said about pretty much ALL viruses.

Take care.

Well..we're all screwed then! :)

Find something to appreciate each day. There is always something.
I just saw my brother, son, mom and dad, who I've not seem in a couple weeks.
Kept distance and felt safe. Going to call my other brother tonight.

Our county got rated an F for staying at home. Reflects the fact that those that don't grow or mine something...work for the government."all" apparently essential.

The Wuhan virus media panic makes it seem like the end times. Remember back when the H1N1 swine flu was ravaging our country? People didn't buy all the toilet paper. Games and events continued as usual. Of course, the media and the president were of the same party at that time.

In a few weeks, the outbreak will reach equilibrium and begin to ebb, and then we can all go back to our normal American lives of eating too much carbs and watching trashy TV. In the mean time, I have sank some more money in the stock market because the chance to buy a dip like this comes along only once in a decade or two. I also just bought 1000 rounds of ammo today. Not because I believe the apocalypse is on us or anything, but because without baseball to watch, I can go have some fun at the range with the kids.

Is that what the bell curve of the data is saying?

If you look at the data across the world..however flawed..the curve looks the same. Country to country.

Tell you what..my bubble of confidence is burst in our country being prepared for a biological warfare attack.

Not even enough ventilators for the troops in the "national stockpile" fairytale.

I envisioned trainloads of medical supplies..military caravans of what we need slowly trucking up the interstate...not any indication that the federal government is ramping up here. I expected to see people, supplies, and equipment staging at our local fairgounds...something to make our annual USFS fire camps look small.

Stock up..nobody is going to be dropping off rations.

Indianapolis is the epicenter in our state. Just found out that a couple of our friends there came down with COVID-19... she’s a teacher and I guess she picked it up at the school before they shut it down? Or maybe in town?

Another teacher from that school went on a ventilator on March 19th. Our friend and her husband started feeling bad around that time. She was in bed with body aches, a fever, and gurgling lungs for three days. They didn’t get tested. The doctor told them that there weren’t tests available at the time and to self-quarantine. I didn’t get all of the details so I’m assuming that the doctor also probably told them to come in if their conditions worsened?? They seem to be getting better.

Stay safe y’all... probably a lot of asymptomatic carriers running about.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

Yes you have to assume the advice was to stay at home...self quarantine and call 911 if the symptoms worsen.
Have to assume your infected to prevent spread...This method of self triage is pretty typical for ALL contagious illnesses.
We don’t have the facilities for people to be admitted to a hospital just because they are sick..especially now...if the assumption is they have corona virus despite a lack of test results...it doesn’t change the treatment of the symptoms.

I fully agree. We have to assume that everyone is a carrier and if everyone with minor symptoms went in for testing/treatment, the hospitals would be quickly overwhelmed.

Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, said today, "If we do things together well, almost perfectly, we could get in the range of 100,000 to 200,000 fatalities."

That assumes that we do things together and almost perfectly. What worries me is that we're not doing this together and we're not doing it almost perfectly. The country is far behind where we could be with testing. Recommendations and enforcement vary by location. Some states aren't even doing what I'd call "well." Take Florida for instance... look at the demographics... population of 20M, a lot of elderly retirees, 6th highest number of cases in the US, many urban areas, still no statewide "stay at home order." I listened to Governor Holcomb and a panel of doctors today and it seems like Indiana is in fairly decent shape (for now) with ICU and general hospital bed space, but they're still looking for more PPE (what hospital isn't?). Indiana got on top of this thing pretty early in terms of closing schools, recommending social distancing, and closing non-essential businesses (not that all are complying), but they're still giving a window for the peak number of cases to come sometime from mid-April to mid-May. That's a pretty large window... I guess they're hoping that everyone follows recommendations and takes precautions so that the peak is lower and comes later. Guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Stay safe y'all.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

The annual flu had 60,000 deaths a few years back...this is worse.

100,000+ is not unreasonable given the situation...more likely.

Maybe the fall out of this will be improved treatment of the annual flu.
Maybe people will get better treatment in the future. Lots of money being spent in medical research at the moment. Also treatments are being fast tracked.

I don't talk to many people around me, since I'm a transplant (having my roots in Kentucky), but I heard from some friends in Jennings County that they're starting to worry about toilet paper. They're running low and the husband hasn't been able to find any in several stores that he checked.

Now I'm starting to worry about toilet paper too, so here's what I've been doing...

I use one square at a time and I use both sides. That conserves paper to the maximum. It also keeps me from touching my face, and ensures social distancing because even my family won't get within 10 feet of me.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

Baked potatoes and beef for dinner tonight.

Gotta use up those potatoes before they sprout.

This has been a good eye opener for me as far as grocery supplies go.
Prior to this, I was going to the store multiple times a week for whatever sounded good at the moment.

As bad as single ply TP goes..even being overly generous it seems to last longer than double ply.
Who would have thought?

Somehow my parents managed to handle cloth diapers...think we will all survive.

Any sprouting potatoes that I’ve got are going to the garden when it warms up and dries up a bit.

I was just joking about the toilet paper thing, although our friends are running low and having difficulty finding some... I’m just trying to keep a sense of humor... because unfortunately, you and I both know that we won’t all survive.

Stay safe.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

You hit the nail on the head.

I also always thought our Gov was "ready" and equipped to get an immediate "handle" on something like this.

Sheesh what if this was an intentional act... what if this was a more serious biological problem than this... a more rapid spread... more deadly ?

I think I am not alone when I say that the level of confidence in "readiness" is nil... and what we have all been feeling all along has been... a false sense of security.

"Armed vigilantes blocked a neighbor's driveway with a tree to force him into quarantine"

A Maine man said armed neighbors descended on his home and chopped down a tree to block his road and prevent him from leaving because they believed he may have coronavirus.

The Vinalhaven resident said he went outside Friday to check why his cable service wasn't working and found a tree blocking the end of his road, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

"While investigating the downed tree, a neighbor started yelling at him and a group of people showed up and began to gather around. Believing the group may be there to harm him, (he) fled to his residence and told his roommates what he had found," the sheriff's office said on Facebook.

The three roommates stayed in the home, where they used a VHF radio to contact the Coast Guard for assistance and a drone to monitor the group's activity, the sheriff's office said. Vinalhaven is an island town.

When law enforcement arrived, the group had fled and it was "apparent" that a tree had been cut down and dragged to block the road, the sheriff's office said.

Officers learned that some residents believed the roommates needed to be quarantined. None of the roommates, who were from New Jersey and were renting a home in Vinalhaven while working a construction job since September, showed symptoms consistent with Covid-19, deputies said.

The residents had been on the island for nearly a month before the incident took place.

It's not 'us vs. them'

State Rep. Genevieve McDonald, who represents the island, said on Facebook the incident "is not something to be celebrated."

A Rhode Island police officer bought groceries for an elderly shut-in who had no food at home

After a verbal altercation with a few locals who targeted the roommates because of their New Jersey license plate, "a group of local vigilantes decided to take matters into their own hands," McDonald said.

"Now is not the time to develop or encourage an 'us vs. them' mentality," she added. "Targeting people because of their license plates will not serve any of us well," McDonald said.

"Except for in the most extreme circumstances, we do not have the authority to control the movement of US citizens within our borders, and frankly, I'm concerned about the number of people who are eager to hand their rights over to the government."

The Knox County Sheriff's Office warned that restricting a person's movement is a "potential violation of the law," and anyone who suspects someone is infected with the coronavirus and isn't following the rules should contact police.

One of my concerns, is keeping my septic tank alive.
So I go to walk past the kitchen the other morning, I get this smell.... ???
Oh great! Is it the septic tank? idk.... :dontknow:

Walk on in to the kitchen, the smell is worse. >:(
I look over to the trash can, there's nothing in it, smells like that!
Then, about that time, the 5lb bag of potatoes catch my eye.... :tard:
And of course, there's that one potato in the bottom of the bag.... :BangHead:
done gone watery with that God awful stank, uggghhhhh :laughing7:

So, moral of the story:
if you think your septic tank is broken because of a bad smell,
check your potatoes.... :laughing7:

Funny.
Been there done that.

I have had great luck growing potato plants...not so much actual potatoes.

I didn’t know people in Florida actually had septic tanks...isn’t the whole state pretty much sitting on top of the water table?
