What a rush! I had been working lots of hours and finally last night on the way home two days later, the sun was out around 6pm and I decided to stop at old historic site just to get some air, relax, swing the coil and look at the Hudson River. We've had some good finds at this site before, several old coins, buckles, etc., but nothing in recent trips. I only usually dig the silver/copper tones because I've found those are the best results, but figured I'd dig some mid range tones this time. I was there about an hour with no luck then I got this mixed signal, but the right size for a coin, so I went for it. Out popped this baby -- Hibernia? Georgevous Rex on the front and lady on the back with "Britannia" (about the size of a quarter). You can see numbers below the line where the date is, but can't make out the actual date. I was fired up and called Earthworks and tell him all about it. He says he'll look it online up and get back to me, so I keep swinging and a few minutes later I get the same signal about 25 ft away. Dig, dig and!!!! check out this one, it's the same coin as the other, except it's about the size of a nickel. This is the best old coin I've ever found with a date on it. Very clearly 1734. I've found about 5 other 1700s coins, but never had one with a date, let alone that far back. Are these farthings? Thanks for any feedback and thanks to Earthworks for cleaning and photographing so well. (Amazing thing, I call back Earthworks to tell him about second coin and he has that exact coin up on the screen while trying to look up the first coin I found. how about that!?!?!?)

Awesome old English find but not an Irish Hiberinia, an old Hibernia would have a Harp on the reverse. Congrats on the oldie and HH, Mike

Earthworks thinks this is King George II

I think its a 1734 half penny King George II. And 1740's Farthing King George II.
These are just examples.

wow wow wow!!

How much do you have to pay to get your coins cleaned... I have 2 large cents I would like to get cleaned.....You can message me if you like...

Minton,

Those photos posted by Earthworks are just examples of nicer versions of the coins I found . I cleaned mine (at very top of page) with olive oil and I think earthworks may have put them in electolysis for a brief period of time.

Looks like English farthings but unless you give the scale they are the same as halfpennies.

Simply marvalous! Way to go/
