Hi everyone. Been a while since I last posted, I know, I've been on vacation. "What?" you say.. "On vacation and NOT metal detecting?" I know I know I know.. blasphemy! <grin> Well actually I did get in a little hunting today. Not a lot, but enough to scratch the itch so to speak. I got my hunt on at a local park this afternoon and I think I did fairly well all in all. Not the most productive day I've ever had, but then they can't all be headline worthy now can they? I'll take what I got though, even if some of what I found is a little spooky.
Today's hunt was at a smaller park on the far side of town from where I live. School is back in session here in Lexington so there weren't any kiddies about and only a few adults playing tennis or walking dogs, so it was rather relaxing. The weather was gorgeous, low 80's low humidity, clear skies and bright sunshine. Nice! I started finding clad right off the bat.. er.. pavement. I hadn't got more than two steps into the grass when I got my first signal. A penny.. Memorial.. <shrug> I'll take it though. There were plenty of other memorials to keep that first one company before I was through for the day. Of course there were other denominations as well, four nickles, ten dimes and twelve quarters, and an even fifty memorial cents all told.

Everything.webp

$4.70 doesn't sound like a lot, but it more than paid for my gas today, that's a plus. Along with the clad of course were the usual suspects, can slaw, pull tabs, screw caps, bottle caps, and foil. <shrug> What can you do? It's all part of the landscape when you are metal detecting right? There were a few surprises today though, the first being the little wooden cross, on a string, that someone dropped.

Seen here with this bullet casing that I found (dug) I can make out some lettering on the bottom but not a definite caliber, anyone have a clue?

I found a somewhat worse for the wear toy car as well.. another fine collection to Fro's Used Cars, even if it is a bit dirty and... well.. swaybacked. Like an old horse.

I found (dug) one little bit of an earring.. it was a very very faint signal.. almost wrote it off as foil. It looks like gold, but I'm not so sure, it's only wire thin so even if it is gold it's not much to get excited about. I dug up another key to add to my collection as well.

Someone lost their specs at the park too... another surface find. Maybe it was the same person who lost the cross..even if it was on the other side of the park. <grin>

Somewhere between the cross and the glasses I came across a faint signal that indicated a penny (zinc).. I dug it up and it turned out to be a Coveted Chucky Cheese Token!!!! WOOHOO!!!! and a few feet farther on, I got another one! TWO CHUCKS IN THE SAME DAY!!! WOW! I'm building quite a collection of these rodent tokens. <grin>

Lastly, thought it wasn't my last find in actuality, was this little commemorative pin from Taco He**..er.. Taco Bell. Celebrating their 45th anniversary. hmmmm... peculiar indeed. You see, my birthday was just this past Saturday.. my 45th birthday. Just kind of makes you go "hmmmmmmm" doesn't it? <laughing> The only thing is that this pin is oddly shaped a bit like a tombstone don't you think? I hope that's not ominous in any way <stretching collar a bit>.

Well there you have it, a short list of finds.. for a short hunt. Just enough to get my fix and tide me over till I can get out and detect again. I *WILL* detect again... oh yeah.. just have to wait a bit. <grin> Till next time gang.. as always..

Happy Hunting Everyone!

The casing you found came from the Lake City Arsenal (LC) dated 1972.Lake City has been around for many, many years. It is a .45 cal ACP for the Mod. 1911A1 Pistol. Was the armed Forces sidearm until they swithched to the Baretta 9mm. What a terrible mistake that was in IMHO. Hope this helps!

Thanks Northwoods. I knew someone online here would know what that shell casing was. Just another casing for the collection.

Happy Hunting!
