Got this one a couple of days ago, along with the 14 K Gold Band that day....there were not many targets, but this was a keeper, and went into the special pocket... This is before the clean up... At first glance, I thought that I may have had a pewter button with a Cannon Ball on one side, but looking through the loupe , I found that there are holes on either side of the ball where the thread went through it... So I am thinking that's the back side, or shank... Then I took some close ups, and I think I can see U.S. on the other side... Can anyone else see it ? Or are my eyes going bad on me ? Thanks for the help and for looking... Happy Huntinting everyone... Pewter Button Back.webpPewter Button Front.webp

Size?

That will help in the ID, for us to know how big it is.

Could be a pewter "U.S." (1820s era militia). How big is it?

Its very, very unusual to have a backmark on a pewter button. The 2 holes are where the copper-alloy wire shank was attached.

Looks like a backmark on it, which would be unusual for a pewter button. I don't see anything on the front, though. :(

The front alms looks like an anchor? and maybe this button is silver? not pewter as I first thougt. it cleaned up nice with baking soda......
I can make out an I. an E and a V any ideas
