Went to a Baltimore City park this morning and the first good target was an absolute surprise...a Williams Cleaner Type III. In order after that find came: a fatty Indian, a key with old-style hand stamped lettering "WTV 55", a piece of carved lead, a football-shaped piece of lead, and what looks like a squashed match tin that is ornately scrolled. These all seem to be period and were found within a 25 foot radius.

Agreed! Went to that side of the field to grid search it and started digging old stuff. :)

In a park, that's great! We just never know what will be under.

Thx Sub. I see what you mean. I didn't show the reverse but there is a central depression at one end. On the obverse I can see how two parallel line could have been part of a bullet. It is an unusual find. Another detectorist mentioned to me of finding a Civil War bullet at the same park; he has found an eagle button or two and a belt plate there as well.

Thx Kim. Won't be there today, but it does hold promise for a future hunt. Thx for checking out the finds.

Thx ATW. I took another look at the piece of scrolled copper. I think it may have been a match box. It would have been round though because it is squashed flat now. Not sure if match box cases were made in a round form.

Thx bill_wabo. This park was once part of the county and was settled in the late 17 century, so there's old stuff in the ground.

Thx Trezurehunter! It was mostly one relic after another, which is unusual for a park hunt, but this place has been known to produce 18th century items.

Thx Silvermonkey. I think all of Baltimore City's older park spaces were used as Union encampments, so dropped and fired bullets are found. It is not a common occurrence but this is a first for me from this particular park.

Thx vpnavy! The reverse of the fatty Indian is the better of the two sides. You can make out the "ONE CENT", but all copper coming from this part of the grounds is green and toasty.
