Found this metal detecting California's mother lode. took me atleast two weeks to find the 2nd half. seems to be a brass. any help appreciated. thanks

It's a pre Civil War union plate. I've seen a few pulled out of Civil War campsites. It's very unusual to get the 2nd piece. Congrats.

devldog! thank you! I lucked out on my spot. I knew it had potential when I dug at least 200 square nails and countless iron bits before finding it. no sound left unburied! I actually found it some time ago and already made a post about it, but recently became curious as to what it might be worth, not that im interested in selling it, just might have to hide it better

That piece to a Relic Hunter, A price I would put on it would be in the neighborhood of PRICELESS. A great piece of History for sure.
