Went back to NY for a weekend of detecting with Skunemonk and we had some great finds...he found this cool Union Forever eagle, please ID if possible. There's a piece that sticks out with a hole that must go over something...any help appreciated. Found my best Barber by far...check out the sheen on that quarter, like freshly struck and only cleaned with water (any grade idea? I would think XF something; liberty and epluribus unum are clear, no mint mark). He got a nice 1915 the same day. The little silver purfume bottle with initials I found is nice, with the screw top and still works. Skunemonk got a couple coppers can't see anything on them except 73 which is almost certainly 1773. He got a 1918 Merc, in fact he got two of them with the same date, but just one pictured here. And 1870 Indian. A nice silver fork...a few other things and some cows that kept following me up the fence line. Thanks for checking it out and any ID help. Bergie

Nice barber. I just found my first and it was an 1898 and it also had XF details. Congrats on all the great finds.

Had a great weekend. It was good to get out detecting. We hit some real good spots.Hope you get back to ny more often. That was my first barber quarter but i like the union forever eagle best. thanks for posting the pics.

Thanks, here's what Don Troiani said about Union Forever: It looks like the cord holder/tightner from a banjo

Awesome finds!!!

I don't recall anything about a banjo on those, but I do recall somewhere that I have seen those as cord tighteners on period military drums!

GREAT finds!

Very nice finds, congratulation!

Booom Baby!

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist...

That's a great hunt man. That silver perfume bottle is awesome! Any idea on how old it could be?

Awesome finds, i liked the lock its all in one piece. Way to go on the silvers.

My friend dug one of those eagles in his yard(circa 1810) and if we can put an id on them it would be great! His does not have writing. Just the eagle and hole. Thanks!
