unknown coin found in a field near old spanish settlement any guesses????

i went out after work yesterday to a spot that is an old Spanish settlement. basically it was a stop for immigrant's of all sorts of countries on there way to California for the gold rush. i cant tell what the date is or what country i know it is definitely not from the U.S. if you know what it is let me know. thanks again.

Sorry, I agree with others, it is a button, that is the backmark you see and definitely a broken off or smashed down shank.

it just seems too flat to be a button, oh well any ideas on how old it might be, i am guessing that the front is someones family coat of arms.

It really looks like a button with a broken off shank and some wear. You obviously cleaned it very well. HH, Mike

We find lots of button depicting coats of arms. Most of them are modern blazer jacket buttons. But the button you found looks different because the buttons I'm referring to have two parts, and the shank is separate.

Some of the button experts will chime in and date it.

I agree, but it does feel (look) right for a 19th century. Maybe a copy for reenactors??

Rich is right on spotting "standard colour". That is a gilt button marking. Gilt buttons are post 1820s and up to perhaps the 1860s. What state did you find that in?

found it in nevada near the old steamboat hot springs its been there since 1847 most of the origional buildings are gone but some still remain.

i put it in an ultrasonic bath for a few minutes and it came out really clean.

arrh, could be mid 1800s then. I have looked closer now & it has some good ware on the back. Still abit uncomfortable with the sudo-livery style.

No, not the manufacturer. Manufacturer is unknown at this point. Many manufacturers use these marks STANDARD COLOUR GILT TREBLE RICH ORANGE and more..........Rich
