Hello all! I found this today at an 1859 homesite. It appears to be a button with a P. The back is really unusual, looks like iron & there is also a wire like material attached. Any idea what this is or how old? Any help is appreciated! Thanks & HH!

I was thinking it may be police but never dug a button with a back quite like this. Thanks for the input!
