Hi all,
I went to a school about 2 months ago and had good luck in the wood chips, but never went down the hill to the soccer field below the playground area until today.
With visions of at least one gold or silver ring in my head, I was pulling up quarter after quarter. I had the field to myself, it was cloudy for once, temp was in the 70's and a breeze was blowing. The only downside was the ground was hard as a rock, but at least the targets were no more than 2-2 1/2 inches deep.
By the time I was ready to go I could hardly walk and my arms felt like lead. I decided to go around the field one last time and came up with a Sacagawea dollar coin and a few more quarters. Early in the hunt I found a kid's ring (#38 for the year) and yet another "mood" ring during my last half hour of the hunt (#39). The cute Mickey Mouse watch was found somewhere in the middle..it rang out as a quarter so I pounded my digging tool into the hard dirt..by the time I found out what it was, I had already pulverized the glass cover and busted it open.
When I got home I dumped out the finds on the kitchen table and counted the quarters. In 3 hours I broke my old record of $9.25 by 2 quarters. If I would have counted them before I left I would have killed myself finding that last one to make up a full roll. 2 more coins would have given me 100 coins in the 3 hours, but I'll take the 98 taken from the field. I had a great morning!
My total take was $13.29 (34 pennies, 4 nickels, 20 dimes, 39 quarters an a Sacagawea dollar).
Hope everyone has a great weekend..that fall weather that's great for MDing is just around the corner, so hang in there!
UPDATE 8/19: I just had to go back this morning for 2 more hours to see what I missed yesterday. Amazing what a hot bath and a good night sleep can do, I was actually able to walk erect this morning!
Today's take at the same location: 45 coins (1 Susan B. dollar, 11 quarters, 18 dimes, 2 nickels and 13 pennies), a key, a button, another silver ring (ring #40 for the year), some kind of screw cap, and a fresh 20-gauge shotgun shell (that wasn't there yesterday and smelled like gunpowder).
My 5-hour hunt at this place was 143 coins (47 pennies, 6 nickels, 38 dimes, 50 quarters, 1 Sacagawea dollar and 1 Susan B. Anthony dollar). Adding the $1.28 from the other school gives a grand total of $20.35.
The dollar coin was buried, but it's the first Susan B. I've ever found that's come out of the ground that shiney.
