**UPDATE - NEW PHOTOS** - COOL "RFD MAIL" LOCK CLEANED UP

Now, here's what it looks like after I spruced it up a bit. I think I'm gonna use it as a paperweight. Thanks for lookin'!

Yes, having the key would be nice. I swear, I believe it would work if I had it! As best as I've been able to research, I believe 1910-1925. Made by "S.R. Slaymaker" who also made railroad locks in PA.

I found that same lock with my very first metal detector 25 years ago on an old 1920s - 1950s fair site in my hometown. Always thought it was a cool lock. I used to have it in a shadow box on my wall along with some little bottles, badges, cars, and other small things that I'd found.

Thanks Quindy. No, I boiled in hydrogen peroxide, brushed it with a toothbrush using Brasso, heated in the oven, put a coat of Briwax on it, and then a coat of Renaissance wax.

I boiled in hydrogen peroxide, brushed it with a toothbrush using Brasso, heated in the oven, put a coat of Briwax on it, and then a coat of Renaissance wax. No, mine is locked tight.
