Updates for Swift?

Hi All,

Just had a few minutes and checked on this forum...anyone found anything interesting? Very few posts. I thought someone would have found Swifts mines by now. LOL. Anyone followed the Indian Waybill? That is a real one.....as posted numerous times I found all of the Indian mines several years ago...what do you do then?

I have studied the John Swift mines, Eastern Ky Native Americans, French, and Civil War in the NE KY areas for years now. There is one place that somehow comes up every time in all of those aspects. I am not one to go out and physically look at areas, just study most things through reading. I will post the area on this thread. Not far from civilization now and a portion may have been made into US 23.

Hi Cannonsburg! Wow! you would not believe how close your location is to another Tnet fellows' location is. Can you be more specific on how you rived at that location? I've followed hundreds of Leads on the Swift location and its's remarkable that two are that close! Been searching since the late 70s.

Hello KY Hiker. I've read many of your posts about the Swift mine legend and I have a question for you. In one of your older posts, you included an 1890's article about a Mrs. Timmons who searched for the mine. I know that there are modern theories about the location of the mine, but during that period, the late 1800's, was the area north of Compton, Ky. considered the only place to search for the mine? Thank you.

Hi Curtis, it's been a long time. There are a couple things new. One is a guy this past spring found some coins along pine mountian at a place that had washed out from the rains we had up this way. not real sure of the exact location, he won't say for good reason, but there is still finds out there we need to just keep looking.

According to her yes. She claimed to have the original journal. Those articles can be found online at the Library of Congress. I would suggest anything East of Lexington was thought of as a possible location at one time or another. Remember that Col. Harrod lost his life looking for the mines in the 3 forks of the KY River (Beattyville,KY). Check your maps, there are three forks on the Red River as well. The key landmark imo is the arch Swift said they saw the sunset through in the journal. Above the western side of Swift Camp Creek on the ridge is a small arch named Sunset Arch. It is in the same area that Mrs. Timmins made her opening which was on the Eastern side of the creek.
