Usually means an adit (horizontal mine shaft). Sometimes means direction.

The1, Gollum is correct as for direction. Mine entrance I do not know but not knocking anyone with more experience.
I found one carved on a rock, looked more the size of a pony shoe. The direction I followed took me 1600 feet and there
