They are starting now? I thought it was 6 months ago. Or maybe it was a year ago. This same tired story resurfaces every couple of months. Your version is even worse, because if you were a student of our monetary system, you would know that the Mint has nothing to do with coin distribution for commerce. Thanks for the laugh anyway. :laughing7:

I thought the Mint was melting the old coins down to make new ones.

The mint makes coins and distroys worn out coins. So they have been melting coins for years.

Anyone ever notice that it is always a new poster who claims the silver is being culled? I wonder why that is?

I checked this vabuckhunter's past messages.. seems like he's been skunked more often than not on dimes. The US Mint has nothing to do with culling any coins. They just make them. If any, it would be the Federal Reserve that would do it. If this was true, there would an announcement since it's government. They don't typically do these things under the table unless it was CIA, national security related. In Canadian, they've announced that policy. What's the point in culling the coins anyhow. The majority of the silver coins are out of circulation anyhow. They're not going to get that much by culling them. Perhaps on the copper, they might but not on silver. In Canada, the issue was different because they changed their composition in pennies very recently so I can see it being done. The U.S. has changed compositions on coins before yet no one has every heard of a gov. plan to take them out of circulation because they know that people take them out anyhow. What's the point of the gov. joining the crowd. Doesn't make sense.

If the government wants to collect all old currency. I say go ahead. Old paper money isn't worth that much anyhow. Just leave the coins alone. Some teller a few weeks ago showed me a 1934 $100 green seal note. It's worth like $120 yet if you had coins from 1934, that'd be $2000 or more. That's all that can be said about paper money.

The federal reserve is a private organization, NOT government..

I saw a news story today about a video of Bigfoot culling silver. ;D

I heard the same story. Apparently our government is in cahoots with the aliens. Our government is helping the aliens accumulate the silver that they need for their warp drives. Of course our government is helping the aliens since the coming of the aliens will inevitably lead to the rise of the new world order. And of course, as you all know, this will result in aliens taking over human bodies.
Fortunately we can fight back! The one thing that the aliens need (silver) is the same thing that renders them powerless. I for one am getting as much silver as possible while I still can. We can fight off the alien overlords!

I fixed your post. It is indeed a "private" organization that must operate under a strict government charter. People think that because the Fed is private that they have the ability to generate a profit (cull silver) without oversight. The Fed is allowed to turn a profit which is heavily scrutinized by the government. Bank draft, electronic transfers, and check processing are their main bread and butter.

got to get the silver while there's still a little bit out there before there is hardly a piece in circulation... There will always be that little bit of silver from people ignorant to the fact that there are silver coins out there and what their value is...

DD,

Don't know if this is true or not, but I have read that the few private banking/companies/organizations that own the stock of the fed reserve get a certain percentage dividend on that stock. I don't know where I read that but it sticks out in my memory.

Sorry to offend, VABuckHunter. The fact remains that this story/rumor is brought up every couple of months. Some of us vets who have been in this game get tired of giving the rumor credence. (Now, Brinks culling silver is true. Right, Jim? :laughing7: ) The problem in this rumor is that it is told by a bank teller. When in fact, most of those individuals are not the smartest and have no clue how coin is processed. Heck, quite a few tellers don't even know our denominations when it is imprinted on every single coin.

Hmmm.. so why is it that the President appoints the chairman of the federal reserve? Not voted in by shareholders like private companies?

Why does our currency say "Federal Reserve Note"?

So no gov. involvement here? Why don't they just call it, the "Private Reserve Bank Organizations"

You have to have the facts to back it up.. maybe historically that's how it started but not in modern times.
