I have been hard at it, day 7 now, putting in entire days into searching very old homesites with ZERO results!! You would think I would find a bent up spoon, a stove leg, a wheat, a rotten leather watch fob, a small tin canister or even modern clad...... NO!

I have come up with nothing but rusted nails by the pounds, trimmings from the old tin roof, a piece of lead (not a bullet), aluminum scraps, an old metal bolt washer, fence wire, and broken glass chips. And this is all came from a house built in 1890, and was used as a boarding house between WW1 and WW2. You would think with all the comings and goings going on at this house, that someone, at some time may have at least dropped a dang tin trade token or something of decent taste.

I knew going into this hobby that I was going to dig trash, but this is freaking ridiculous! All I do is dig trash.

A few helpfull tips , I think we all have been in that type of place before. Ok first you know there is a house there . Now back in the day they had no air conditioning so during the warm months they had a spot somewhere in the yard where they enjoyed the shade and the breeze . So look for old stumps where big tree's grew at one time and nine times out of ten that will be a sweet spot. Tree's are awesome places to check around , as the tree grows the roots tend to push up the items toward the surface. And alot of times most county's didnt have dumps back in the day so they had a spot in the yard they burnt trash and burried it .You would be surprized at the items that accidentally get thrown away that are in the midst of the trash debre ....Good luck to you and keep on swingin...

I call it "kissing frogs." Gotta do it.

This is why so many metal detectors end up in the closet collecting dust. Don't let this happen to you! we have all been there
at some point myself more than once :(

Keep the faith Cap'n ;D
And keep in mind that PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF

Re: Utterly And Thoroughly Disgusted! - On my darkest day - - -

I had the same experience with a great site. After a long winter I couldn't wait to hunt this amazing old property that promised to be great. After two or three hours of cans, trash, and junk I had enough. I left my great site, drove across town, and made my best find ever. MD brings out the greatest range of highs and lows. Remember, something amazing is just one swing away. Keep the faith. Metal detecting is for the optimist, not the pessimist.
Your luck will turn around.

I know what you mean. I have been detecting for over 40 years and I have had bad luck at times. I went for about a 4 month stretch without finding anything but trash. Then all at once I got my mojo back and started digging good stuff. It happens that maybe you are having a bad stretch early in your career of detecting. Keep at it. All I know is that if you are not hunting you can't find anything.

Nobody's whining, just sharing experiences. I'd put one of those cute icons here, but can't figure out how to do it, whine, whine ---- hee-he & ha-ha. Grinningly, Andi
