Very old vinyl records

So, my brother and I found all these old vinyl records at the thrift store. A dollar a record. They are very old large 78 speed records. So old, there is only one playable side. The copyright date on one record says 1905. These are VERY old. Here are pictures of one of the records.

Ironically, these are all classical pieces I really like! It was a good deal!

My grandmother had a bunch of those. I could have had them, but saw no reason to take them back when she offered. At least some of hers were of Enrico Coruso:

Diamond tipped stylus vs a steel pin. Proper relationship between the stylus and the record grooves. Zero compatibility x2.

As long as the turntable has 78 Spd and a stylus compatible with the grooves. A modern diamond stylus will
turn em to trash very quickly. Check with a stereo expert on line, not BestBuy. As I remember they are
Bakelite over a plaster matrix. If you drop one don't even look down. Best wishes!

I saw a stack of these at a yard sale a few years back, all in the original jackets. Stuff was being sold by
an estate liquidator who gave me an unbelievably low price on the whole stack. Leafing through the stack
I found "Carry Me Back To Old Virginny" and a bunch of Steven Foster stuff. I passed because of the fragility
and I knew I'd have to ship them insured and pack them between multiple layers of rigid cardboard.

Too much hassle and finally the treasure Gods forgave me, but it took a while!
