I found this beauty in my most hunted lot yesterday. It was made by the Los Angeles Rubber Stamp Co. Sometime in the late teens to early twenties.

Deputy Sheriff Merced County. Woo Hoo. First Badge.

Yes indeed a very cool find.
It's one of those things that no doubt a fair number made, but very few of them were lost. I imagine they hung on to those as tight as their guns.

Without an inscription, tracking down the guy who owned it would be quite a long shot...AND, just maybe if you start asking questions someone "a not-so-nice cop" may insist you hand it over. Not saying that would happen, but just might.

Yes, Rick, something that I have also considered. I certainly won't waltz into the Sheriff's office asking questions about who may have owned it. As far as the number made, who knows, Merced County isn't that big and it was certainly much smaller in the teens and twenties. I'd be surprised if 100 in this style existed much less, survived. but you never know.

Yes, I forgot to consider that it is only one county. ANY sheriff's badge would be a rare loss/find, narrow that to just one county, wow !
