yard sale find.....the multicolor cateyes were found in a babyfood jar of assorted marbles.....its thought these hybrid marbles were made either at the start or the end of another color...these were made in parkersburgh wv in the 50s&60s...

Are the "highlight's" of the cateye the begining or the end?.....Nice snag Duffy....

I have rarely payed any attention to marbles, but have found at least a hundred of them in my yard. Every time I have a reason to dig something, they always seem to appear. I cleaned them and dropped them in my fish tank. They were at least 3 to 4 deep when my wife gave the fish tank away.
This post raises my curiousity even more about my property because part of the house is an old log cabin located in the middle of The Midland Trail and was at one time even used as a church. This place is ripe for civil war activity, but so far I haven't been able to determine if my "cabin" was here prior to or after the war, but I believe it was after from what my neighbor told me when I bought the place. One of these days I'll be able to afford a MD and find out just what "lay below".......

not to ask a dumb question but how can you know where a marble was made?????
i ve studied them for years and have dug at the old factory sites...each company has traits that each machine makes on the marble...the colors are destinctive, too some companies mixed thir own glass and those batches are company secrets....i attend 5 marble shows a year and hang out with other collectors and talk marbles ...at the shows sometimes youll stay up all night mullin over marbles and identify em.....i started out tryin to use the books but theyre almost useless.....the highlights of the marble would be the end of the vane...its a great hobby...dang on the fishtank marbles....you coulda made a nice profit on em....not all marbles are valuable ,but not worthless ive sold lots of em and a few years ago i sold part of my collection at auction and bought my wife a new grand am...she dont complain about my marbles so much now lolol

DANG...........I really missed those fish.

Duffy,
Very cool looking marbles. I love seeing your posts and what you'll find next. Great info.
I thought of you this w/end. I went to our flea market and a vendor had a bag of red, white, and blue "Bicentennial" marlbes for sale in the original pack. He was asking $7.95 for them.

miner...those were likely a reproduction bag...if it was a big bag, like 18 inches long, it would be a good deal ...champion agate from pennsboro put those out in the 70s...worth the askin price...but if it was a bag of like 20 marbles those are what we call fantasy bags, a reproduction......ive got a bag around here someplace.... those are worth a couple bucks...theres lots of em out there....

Nice score at the yardsale duffytrash, thanks for the info on them WTG.

Duffy,
You hit the nail on the head. It was a smaller bag with like 20 in it. Man, you're good! ;D
