I have always had a thing about buttons with an eagle perched on a cannon. I have found a few, but never one with the "CORPS" or "REGT" under the cannon. I went out in wet muddy conditions on Sunday for what I knew would be my last hunt of the year. Didn't find hardly anything but I did get this artillery button. It's a little rough but I'll take it. It is identical to Albert's AY21 except mine is 24 mm instead of 22 mm. It has an Armitage/Best Quality/Philadelphia backmark.

That's a great button find Steve. I love the style of those particular buttons

Abe, these buttons just scream early patriotic Americana to me. The eagle, the cannon & balls, and the drum. I wanted to dig one for years before I found my first "eagle on a cannon".

Congrats on a beautiful button. Still on my list. It seems there are a lot if different sizes and varieties than any book shows that's one fun part of finding them is researching them and finding different ones than in the books. HH!

Looks good to me, and probably a little better in the hand than the picture.

Steve, you had one heck of a fall. You must be back to full strength after your wrist issue. That's an incredible button. You have uncovered a lot of American history this fall my friend. If the weather holds, how long can you normally hunt into the winter? WTG, Q.

it took me about 20 years to get my first. Here are some of the others from this site. A local militia artillery unit trained here.

Quindy, I have been able to hunt all through the winter some years and not at all others. Depends on whether we get the "El Nino" or the Polar Vortex!!

Thanks DI2. That's a Navy. Not particularly rare, but I sure do like it
