I cant believe my luck ! I just got my new headphones this morning but the rain was coming down hard >:( FINALLY it let up for a bit so I headed to the orchard. Swinging along and digging trash......... I thought for sure that this signal was some more junk. Not very deep, so I was not very carefull. BAM !! Belt plate was in my hand and I was doing the happy dance!
I managed to hit it with my shovel but.......... oh well, I have a freekin' belt plate :headbang:

Here are some pics, only dry cleaned so far.

All official U.S. stars were six-pointed up until the mid-18-teens when at that time mostly civilian flags started showing five-pointed ones. Even military flags held six points into the 1820s/30s.

It's a great find.

I did not fully know just how far back lead-filled backings were utilised. Interesting.

Here's another find like it:

Hey Packrat........That is a sweet plate, it proves that stuff is still out there intact. Great find, I found part of one a month ago. Plan on going back to the site soon, its in the hard woods so don;t have to worry about the grass growing.......WTG keep on Digging! John

Seeker,

Have you ever gotten an exact date on that portion of a buckle?

Man I love that plate.

Congrats on finding it. You could probably tap out that cut and make it look like it was never damaged.

Beautiful find. It's not in the same league as yours but I dug a Civil War Swordplate a few years back. I wear mine, took it to a leather shop and had it made into a belt.

Heartfelt congrats.

Sorry, I couldn't do that. Had a friend wear an authentic (and rare) Confederate button. One day it popped off and in another hundred years will get refound!

You can get every kind of reproduction at a relic store near you. I have about seven or eight plates that go along with [a couple of] real finds.

My favorite [repro] is my 1812 with 13 stars overhead acting as "clouds by day".
