Wax seal frame? Missing stone.

Went back to an old site today. I’ve dug 1720’s French, US War of 1812, up to present day items here.
It looks like I have a smashed brass wax seal frame, missing the stone.
What do y’all think. It’s a bit more decorative than the complete one my buddy dug years ago.
If it is a seal matrix, can anyone help me with a time frame.

Very interesting find BP, stylistically it definitely looks to be 18thc. :thumbsup:
Unfortunately, I'm not an expert in this area, possibly Red-Coat or Cru might chime in.
