Bergie was nice enough to invite me up again for a day of detecting in his neck of the woods, and once again, it was well worth the trip! The first place he had lined up was an old colonial road that winds its way through the woods, past a modern school. He had found a flat button at this site a while back and thought it might be worth a shot .He was right! We had been detecting for about an hour and a half and we were almost ready to call it quits when I got a pretty good signal on a small hill next to the road bed. The ground was frozen solid so Bergie went to the car and got the ol trusty hammer and chisel! After about 10 minutes of pounding and prying we pulled out an old Connecticut copper! The reverse of the coin is not in the best of shape and the date is impossible to read, but making an educated guess, I would say it is an 1788 draped bust variety! After that, we left and went to the site of what looked like an old farm. After a few hours with nothing to brag about, we went to the third site of the day, an old recreation area with history dating back to the 1700s. Bergie was first to find a keeper, but I will let him post his own stuff when he gets time. Needless to say it was a great find! After another hour or two I scored a large cent that unfortunately cannot be identified. It is almost worn to a slug, and the only way I can ID it is from part of the word STATES on the reverse. Even being in such rough shape I was still pretty happy. Then I found a small 10x10 piece of woods that produced a nice 1920 Standing Liberty Quarter. Not far away I found a very worn Barber Quarter (I think a 1906 O) and a wheat cent in the same hole! After a little more hunting Bergie found another keeper and I found a nice intact crotal bell. All in all it was a great day! Thanks again Bergie for your amazing generosity! You are a guru of research!
