Bergie was nice enough to invite me up again for a day of detecting in his neck of the woods, and once again, it was well worth the trip! The first place he had lined up was an old colonial road that winds its way through the woods, past a modern school. He had found a flat button at this site a while back and thought it might be worth a shot .He was right! We had been detecting for about an hour and a half and we were almost ready to call it quits when I got a pretty good signal on a small hill next to the road bed. The ground was frozen solid so Bergie went to the car and got the ol trusty hammer and chisel! After about 10 minutes of pounding and prying we pulled out an old Connecticut copper! The reverse of the coin is not in the best of shape and the date is impossible to read, but making an educated guess, I would say it is an 1788 draped bust variety! After that, we left and went to the site of what looked like an old farm. After a few hours with nothing to brag about, we went to the third site of the day, an old recreation area with history dating back to the 1700s. Bergie was first to find a keeper, but I will let him post his own stuff when he gets time. Needless to say it was a great find! After another hour or two I scored a large cent that unfortunately cannot be identified. It is almost worn to a slug, and the only way I can ID it is from part of the word STATES on the reverse. Even being in such rough shape I was still pretty happy. Then I found a small 10x10 piece of woods that produced a nice 1920 Standing Liberty Quarter. Not far away I found a very worn Barber Quarter (I think a 1906 O) and a wheat cent in the same hole! After a little more hunting Bergie found another keeper and I found a nice intact crotal bell. All in all it was a great day! Thanks again Bergie for your amazing generosity! You are a guru of research!

Nice job Kieth....Seem's like you've been doing well with the older coin's lately.Well worth the trip.Congrat's on the recovery's and HH!!

Very nice of Bergie having you hunt again with him and very nice coins found. If there were some of the symbols legible in the on both the Reverse and Obverse between the letters, I might be able to date it for sure and maybe even the variety, but right now, hmmmmmn. Not bad for a CT copper, better than that Large Cent.:)

Great having you up here...you did well again....I like the "Weekend at Bernie's" play on words too, cracked me up. Lots more where those came from. We have to keep hitting those areas. Also enjoyed my beer, steak and eggs for dinner after the hunt. Great combo :-)

Great finds! That Barber in only a shell of its former self.

Awsome:
60`s here today and i`m still jealous.

Fantastic! A Standing Liberty AND a Barber in one outing!!! And the coppa's nice too. Great finds, thanks for sharing them.

Nices finds Cornholio. Dont forget about the New York state "out of state resident recovery act"!
Also need to know if you reside below or above the "Mason Dixon line" If below: We : "The State of New York" will need to take your next find also. The Connecticut copper by all means please keep , being that we call that state the communist state anyway :)

very nice indeed. yeah, i think this large cent is going to remain a bit of a mystery. it must have been worn to a slug when it was lost. oh well, thats the way it goes sometimes.

when i first dug the barber it was covered with dirt and i couldnt tell what it was, only that it was a silver coin. i got exited for a minute when i noticed it had no reeded edge (worn off)! i thought maybe it was a reale or something until the reality of the situation hit me that it came out of the same hole as a wheat cent so it couldnt be that old! worn or not, i still love to dig any barber coin!

Super finds!!! Was Bergie able to get signals on all your finds ... before you dug? (w.his detector?)

GD :)

thanks Wayne! too bad you couldnt make it out this time. maybe another time. the only signal i asked Bergie to check was the Connecticut copper signal. the ground was so hard i was unsure whether i wanted to dig it or not! (glad i did!) he had no trouble getting a signal with his machine.

Congrats, HP, on your first silvers of the year!! That CT copper is a great find also!!

Good luck on your next hunt!!
