Week's Results - Good Ending (6-25-11)
A little late getting the results posted this week, as I was out of town this week and lots to do. First off, I intended to hit up a lot of banks on my road trip, but only managed to get to maybe ten or so. Most gave the same old story....don't have any, don't order them, somebody else gets them, blah, blah, blah...beginning to think there is no virgin territory left. Did manage to get $80 worth at one bank and $160 at another. The $160 must have been somebody's collection, unfortunately a collection of bicentennials
. The rest gave up nothing.
Then picked up my weekly boxes on Saturday...two boxes of dimes and four boxes of halves. The silver vein that's been feeding me the last couple weeks must have dried up, as numbers were much lower. Dimes gave up (1) 1964. Halves gave up (1) 1964 and (7) 40%'s.
The best was saved for last...the last box of halves gave up one keeper, but it was a good one. I knew it was different when I saw the edge. Turned out to be a 1954-S Carver/Washington Commemorative in very good condition
. I know this coin does not carry much of a premium, but it's only the second commemorative that I have found, so I couldn't be happier. It's ironic that I found this particular coin, as we went to the Booker T. Washington Monument this past week. Tried to get some good pics, but my camera tends to lose details on close-up shots.
