Well scouting the fields works out well!

So I figured after scouting these field I would turn up something old. Well after about an hour of digging in the heat I pop out a piece of mangled wire. Throwing it in my pouch I continued digging thinking it was nothing. I thought I had nothing and drove up to my grandpa's house to tell him no luck. After emptying my pouch he immediately recognized the mangled knapsack hook and I felt like an idiot after I saw what he was talking about. This happens to be my first knapsack hook and I'm pretty happy with it even if the plow got it. At least I know there is civil war stuff in the field and I definitely will hunt it a lot more.

Invest in a set of Francis Lords' Civil War Collectors encyclopedia if you do not already have one. It will have pictures of all the stuff used in the Civil War, and will help you immensely to ID your finds in the field.

Congrats on your Civil War find. Those knapsack components are neat finds.

Thanks for the recommendation. We have a few books about coins and Alberts button book but we still get confused on some things so I'm definitely gonna have to check that book out.
