Dad and I made a trip to our old family farm property.....I'll have to say there is lots of trash around the area...Especially NAILS. TONS of nails... The house is not in very good shape. We did manage to find a few interesting things...

My first dig was a wheatie, 1956. It's the first wheat penny I have ever dug. I also found some really pretty glass shards which are probably some of my great grandma's old plates/bowls/cups. Lots of old pull tabs which were probably from great grandpa's beer cans. A .22 magnum brass shell and a what is it(??)...And I saved the best for last: My very first skeleton key !

Thanks for looking !

I love those American houses surrounded by trees!
Congratulations on the recovery of the memory of your family ... it is very important not to forget.
P.D:
What I like about USA are houses and smile of his girls. ;D

Thank ya'll very much for the replies ! Dad and I enjoy detecting every chance we can get :)

Very nice... You Wheat is a good find too... but skeleton keys were used way back... I bet there is something older there than that wheat! Great finds! Keep at it!

I think that's awesome that you detect with your dad. My 16 likes to go with me.

Cute nail polish btw...ha.

The "what it" might be a rivet/anchor. You insert it into a hole and hit the small pin end with a hammer which causes the other end to expand. Just a quess without seeing it in person, I have a few out in the screw bins.

:icon_thumleft: Good hunt. And spending time with family is the best find of all :coffee2:

Very interesting finds Erika! :icon_thumright:
Love the look of those old keys! :o
Probably a good indicator that there's still more old stuff for you and your Dad to find there!

Keep searching silver will follow. It's great to see you hunting with your Dad.

It is great that you detect with your dad, that kind of quality time can't be beat! Sometimes you just have to clean out all the trash in the ground before the goodies come up. HH, Mike

I'm glad you spend time w/your dad, mine passed in 77. Wish I had spent more time with him. He did however teach me the bad ole habit of detecting with his goldmaster in the 60'S. You go girl.

Erica, this is the sort of thing that makes this the best hobby in the world.
Looks to me like your Dad did a good job raising you.
Your penny is a very good year, my mom had her first and only child that year.
