I should have known that my afternoon was going to be good. I took my little gang to Pizza Hut for lunch and received a 1915 wheat penny in change. Not bad. Picking up where I left off at a friend's country getaway, I was moving along, finding nothing special when I got a strong half dollar/dollar signal. Those, of course, always get dug, and this was no exception. I pulled the plug and scanned, nothing (which means the treasure still waits in the hole. I loosened the dirt and was disappointed to see a penny appear, but I knew that penny couldn't produce the signal I was getting. After removing the penny (junk wheat, as it turned out), I scanned the hole again and still heard the song we all love to hear. Gently moving dirt in the hole, I saw the distinct outline of a silver half dollar and carefully reached in for it. I sensed immediately that something was different about this recovery; right underneath the half was a quarter. Oh, yeah, this happens every day (I wish). Without removing any dirt, I was able to see a Walking Liberty Half and a Washington quarter (both 1942, as it would turn out. Now greedy, I scanned the hole again and was still getting a signal. After a little more searching, FDR joined the party (1946). I didn't really care that the rest of the day was uneventful, except for a 40 Merc; how often do you pull three silvers out of the same hole? I now have a camera, but I'm going to try scanning these babies; wish me luck.
