Congrats on the big silver Whadi. What were you doing in 1958? I was conceived in late 58 and popped my head out in June of 59.

Wow! You really know how to celebrate in style! That is an awesome Franklin! Nice detail.

Me thinks there maybe a slight scuffle over that one, all eyes are on the prize!

Someone practicing with a 12 gauge? Maybe the half was dropped in a hasty exit?

Well done Gary! What did you think it might be when you first saw the edge? Of course the AT was probably screaming "HALF"!!! at you. Bet you weren't thinking it was Ben!
You saved that one before the rain/snow came down.

Isn't that one of those replica coins struck by the Franklin Mint back in 1958? It sure is a BEAUTY! Congrats, Whadi, April may be your month. Sub 8-)

There was a big stink over the initials JRS being struck on the coin to note the designer. (John R Sinnock)
Some people said that the initials were for Joseph Stalin and that the mint had been infiltrated. They also wanted to know how the infiltraters got Stalin's middle name.
This coin was not approved by the Commission for Fine Arts, but went into production anyway. Ben Franklin was the first
non -president to appear on an American coin.
Very nice way to start April. It seems that we don't see a half on Tnet for awhile and then everyone starts finding them. We had a run on Barber Halves a few months ago. Maybe we will get a run on Franklins.
Congrats on a real pretty coin.

I've always been surprised just how pretty a silver can come out of the ground, now and again. I tend to wonder if it had been in the ground all those years or if someone lost their "good luck" coin, (when the luck ran out).

Anyway, this one was in the middle of a foot path just off the grounds. It rang in at a very clear 91 in any direction. It was about 4-5 inches deep. The sound was so sweet and short like a coin that I started doing my little waltz all the way around this coin. 91 in any direction! :) I flipped the plug and then scraped some loose soil, and there he was, the edge showing. I KNEW it was a half as soon as I saw the edge. I said, the only thing now is, how old. :)

I was very pleased! And found it early enough to make the rest of the day go like a breeze. :)

Thanks!

Truly awesome!
Now if you could just get Ben to talk we'd know how he got there!
Yep 91 is a sweet song, to waltz to in any direction!
