What can I be doing wrong???

First off this is my first post and I'm about a week old newbie to this forum. I've been MDing for about 30+ years. I'm not that old, I started young. As I was looking over this site I came across coin roll hunting, and started reading all the post. Hey what a great ideal, I never thought of that, but it's too good to be true. Or I'm too late and all the good stuff is gone. Beside I'm poor and can't afford the big stuff ( halves ). Then I started reading about pennies and the price of copper and the price of Wheaties. I started to think, I'm digging all day long, sweating my tail off ( I live in south Florida ) just to find a few Wheaties and the rare silver. I have found my share over the years but not without a lot of hard work, fun, but still hard. I'm gonna give this coin roll hunting a try, at least I'm in the ac.

I go down to my local bank and buy a box of pennies and take them home. First roll three Wheaties...wow. I'd work all day trying to find that with my md...long story short..two boxes and 37 Wheaties....now comes my problem....

I was at the bank today to buy some more pennies when I decided, what the heck and asked if they had any rolled halves. The teller held up 9 halves and said this is all she had. I tried to act really cool because I could tell 3 were silver, I said I'd take all 9. I was wrong 4 were silver. I thought, hey this might work. Went to the next bank, asked the teller the same question, her reply was sorry I don't have any rolled but I have $35.00 worth in this envelope, I'll take em. I lost count of how many silvers halves were in there. I live in a small town ( less than 8000 ) and there are six banks, what the heck I went to them all.... I lost count on how many rolls I bought, less than 15 including the unrolled, I ended up with.............64 SILVER KENNEDY HALVES..4 were 64's and all of the rest of the years through 69......

Now to my question.... What am I doing wrong... I feel so guilty.... :thumbsup:

Welcome! And it sounds like you are doing everything right. Now the next step is to branch out and go to neighboring town banks and see what you find. You could be in a virgin area and there maybe lots more where those 64 silvers came from. Happy Hunting.

Welcome and congratulations!
You are doing nothing wrong. You are saving all that silver that would otherwise be sitting unappreciated in a vault. You are also saving the tellers the trouble of regularly having to count the loose coins.
I've had more than one teller gladly off load the loose halves in their vault so that they didn't have to count for it at closing.

Sounds like your doing nothing wrong. Nothing to feel guilty about, you came across them fair and square. That's the game, find the silver. I keep all the silver I find. Waiting till silver goes way up and then sell.

Sounds like you have hit on an approach that works in your town.
Take Golden Silver's advice and move into other areas.
Do not forget dimes and possibly quarters if your in a virgin area.

Take it from this grannie. You are not doing anything that would be considered "guilty." Folks in banks know what silver is--many have saved lots of silver over the years and they do not want any more. One poster stated the following: "I am cash poor, but silver rich."

This should give you a "big" clue that it is okay to buy coins--and if you gain silver--good for you.

Today I picked up over 25 silver halves (40%) from a teller I know who was highly experienced. Trust me when I tell you, 99% of tellers know what they are doing.

The " what was I doing wrong " was tongue and cheek... I thought maybe I get 2 or 3 not 64...I'm starting on the next county over in the morning. I own a vending company and deal with a large amount of quarters...I get silver quarters all the time. I keep the biggest bank in my town supplied with the quarters, no sense coming here to roll hunt, they will be skunks

.... I never tried dimes, I will when the halves slow down a bit. I drive all around Florida on my route and pass a hundred banks a day. I can see a shiny silver furture for awhile. Thanks for all the replies.....ffej

What you ARE doing wrong is using your precious beginners luck talking on the forum when you should be finding the rest of the silver alotted to you during your beginners stage. Its like your virginity i guess. You dont have to do anything to earn it at first but once you know what you have been missing out on you have to work to find it again. Those 64 silvers in 8 banks will quickly turn into 2 or 3 silvers in 30. Now get out of the house and use the rest of the luck up before someone tracks your ip and visits those banks for you. :icon_pirat:

If the gilt gets to grate you can ship them to me and I will start a special gilt remover pile for you. When silver hits 35.00 I will sell them and celebrate you freedom from gilt. while you are pondering this get out there and buildup your pile of gilt.

Only thing you are doing wrong is that you haven't paid your membership dues yet. You know that the first 50 silvers you find have to be sent to 50 people on this board, right? I'll look for mine in the mail next week.

Great job. Believe me, it is NOT as easy as that. think of it. How many silver coins have you found this YEAR with the MD? Certainly not 64, and not in the timframe you spent to get these. BUT ... once you work the banks out of what they have, then the cream is gone and the milk is MUCH harder to get. SO work it while you can, and be happy with it. Then when it gets hard, remember that it is STILL easier with CRH than finding silver with the MD. :-)

I'll check for my coin in the the mail about ... Wednesday?

You lost me, guilty(?); I've found at cold calls on banks in last 16 months some 2000 Silvers my bestest find was 419 in one stop, 278 after that and many more couple over 100, and to talk about Boxes myself have had 2 over 240, and at lest 10 over 100, and my wife has had 2 Boxes over 500, one week she got 20 Boxes and found 758 Silvers in 19 of her 20 Boxes, 338 were %90's too and neither of us feels guilty. Though our finds have went down dramatically in 2010 with only a couple weeks in 2010 that have been modest we still in toto have found over 8000 Silvers since stating CRH'ing.

All I can say if holy moly !!..... I would be out there right now hunting, but it's Sunday and I'm dreaming of Monday!... I found Friday is a thougher day with the banks all so busy. Did find a few, but ran into 3 diffrent dump banks in another town.... I decided when the banks are closed I'll be swinging my MD....MAN THIS IS FUN !......BTW about that 50 coin new member thingy :dontknow:
