I found these "buttons" on the former estate of a wealthy fella from the mid 1800's. He was an associate of Thomas Edison as well. The octagonal one is 1" across. It has a small threaded piece in the back. Most interesting is the very detailed face stamped onto the front. The round one is also 1" across and has some print on the rear. I am attempting to post 5 pics. Any ideas as to what these are would be great. Thanks.

I thought of a wax sealer also, but I've never actually seen one to compare. If it is a wax sealer, is the face on the front used to ID the person sealing? If so, I'll have to work on ID'ing the face. I would know where to start for an ID because there was only one family that lived on this piece of land as far as I can tell. Any more info would be great!!!!

The one with the threaded back looiks like the top to a tube for cosmetics or medicine. The face could be the founder or producer of a cream in the tube like toothpaste.

I think the tube lid with the face is for a mustache wax or brill cream for the hair??

Maybe, but the threaded portion is pretty small in diameter. It's abount the diameter of a common unsharpened #2 pencil, but round. 1/4" I think.

That would be a good size for a small tube.

Pretty interesting! If that is true, I would love to know what brand of cosmetic it would be. That would complete the mission. Thanks for the posts!!!

For the other piece you might be able to do a US patent search for June 18, 1895.

The second pic from the top looks like part of a "snap" fastener. Monty
I was thinking the same. I go with Monty. He's on a roll lately. :)
