with everything that has been going on I forgot to mention that the other day when my daughter was digging and broke my shovel after her and her sister left with Grandma and Grandma I went over and used the shovel part of my shovel to dig in the hole and found what broke it, I am not sure what it is but it is solid metal about 2 feet long and about as thick as your finger, it kind of looks like a very long bolt, oh and it looks like you can screw something on to it on the end.

Based on your description, it sounds like a threaded rod sometimes used as a tensioner.
