Looks like a little copper oxide within in it.

I have detected along Lake Superior and found rocks with copper running through them. However, the copper in those rocks had a patina like a well circulated penny. That looks like a copper alloy in molten slag.

As I've been saying for quite a few years.. The Equinox (i love them, now) hasn't a clue what it is detecting.... Could be a gold nugget, or something like you have there !!
