What do ya'll do with your significant others when you hunt?

I just started detecting fairly recently, and I usually go by myself, but tomorrow, my girlfriend of 3 years wants to head out in the field with me.

I'm heading to a place that is very large, somewhat remote, and abandoned, and have heard people say that it's kind of dangerous. Usually she likes to go out on hikes/runs by herself, but from what I'm hearing, it may not be a good for her at this place. Often, people don't even like going alone. (On a side note-- it is legal where I'm going. There's just a big homeless and copper-thieving problem).

I'm happy to have her along. She doesn't have an interest in MD'ing, but maybe I can try to get her into it. I'll definitely be packing in a chair for her to sit on while I dig, and I have a picnic planned for her when we're done (I'll only hunt from about 7am-11am or so.

So what do all of you people do with your significant others when they want to come?

Thanks!

My wife is awesome when it comes to metal detecting. Before we had kids she was right there with me every beep. She would do the digging because she enjoyed it. Now we have two little girls and they all tag along and all help dad dig. My wife stands guard with her glock22 since she is now the photographer and in charge of the kiddos. I'm glad the have those extra set of eyes out here in MT. I carry as well but most of the time I have the headphones on. At the end of the day we grab dinner on the way home and go through our finds and everyone picks out their favorite piece and turn them into necklaces or bracelets. Glad to have a strong lovin' woman.

My wife very strongly supports my MD activities, so I am encouraged to go whenever I want. Sometimes she will drop me off somewhere nd go off to do the grocery shopping, then rendezvous to pick me up. Occasionally she will accompany me,though she doesn't care to MD ( she could-I have another detector and tools set)she comes for the hike or park. When in woods she scouts for home-sites for me. She really is great and I return the accommodation at every turn. I'm a lucky digger!

I am just starting but I am blessed to have a wife that will go with me and is interested in history as I am. She has always fished with me and I try to do things with her ( hand bell choir and choir at church) and I have learned to love them as well. Like everything else I think you get out of it what you put into it.

The mister got started MDing before I did and would go when our kids were young.I was always jealous wishing I could go but wanted him to be able to have some free time by himself. Now that the boys are grown and on their own we both have detectors and have been going every week if we can. It's nice to be able to share a hobby with your husband or wife. We also like to go shooting together.

Just bought a used travel trailer to hopefully use this spring and summer. Wife has MD though, should it be a problem if I let her sit out in the warm reading when I'm picking around?, we'll see.

I lock the wife and dog in my trunk while detecting. After several hours detecting, open the trunk and see which one licks your hand. Mans best friend.

She waits patiently while I hunt.

Sounds like the place you are going she will need to be the sentry, give her a concealed pistol to watch your back while you are busy digging.

I'm Sure Red Will Make Several Comments, On the Really Bad Posts!!!! Chug

Wifey lost a ring her dad gave her in the snow while packing the truck for kids hockey game, got 60 miles down the road and she wondered where her ring was. Got home 2 days later and she was still upset about it. Gave her the md and she found it under the snow in the driveway. I went from nerd to stud in 10 mins. Now all I got to to is get her to come out with me in the woods here, we don't have to worry about bad people here just bears and cougars but i'm always armed.

Mine will go and read books when land detecting or sit under the umbrella at the beach and keep cooler stocked. She tried it once and thought it was kind of stupid, but will follow me anywhere to watch my eyes light up when I find loot!!! After you marry her and raise 3-6 kids you'll be glad to get away by yourself often!
3 kids here and ditto, ditto, ditto.

well ivan salis it sounds like you are talking about my wife and i don't like that --- no lol that is actually what my wife does are you sure we ain't married to the same woman???

I have asked the gf to come with me several times. I have another detector, pinpointer, diggers, pouches....another whole setup for her to use, but she shows no interest. She really encourages me to go and enjoys old coppers and old bullets too. I think she likes her time alone too. This year I will be hunting river islands while kayaking, so maybe she will go then. She enjoys kayaking.

Leave her in the trunk.... er truck. TTC
