cool boats

i rescued this knife from the work bench of an old biker up here...he was using it to scrap gaskets.
i stitched the scabbard, two layers of cushie soft leather...
question, i am making metal pieces for the throat of the scabbard, and the drag...
do i use the copper piece or silver?
i am leaning towards the copper...

The copper would probably be easier to work with but the steel would be more durable. IMHO, it would depend on what you are using to work the metal with. If you have the appropriate tools to work with, the steel would be the better choice, if not, the copper might be easier. Good job on the scabbard!

It really is a nice project...

Copper is fine if you like verdegris. That green oxidation crud.

Silver may tarnish, but that ain't yucky.

Leather is pretty much a guarantee the blade will be maintained in close contact with moisture.
Especially a nice snug fit.

Of course you could check with some of our resident relic experts on that...

this old knife is a hanger queen...J.A.Henckles, Twin Works, 1920ish manufacture...

"Copper is fine if you like verdegris. That green oxidation crud."

i guess i knew that...duh.
so i go with the sterling...

Hey PB,

I think that painting is super cool man. I love those old sailing vessels and the way you portrayed that one coming out of the fog like a ghost ship is great. Thanks for sharing it.
