I'm currently trying to get the picture from my boss ( he forgot to send it to me so I need to remind him). But, today, a truck that delivering 3 pallets of goods to our office, also had 3.2 billion in gold as it's secondary payload. The bricks were 1000 lbs each (so it would be impossible to steal). He looked at the load (picture to be posted later), and it looks like there are 5 pallets of 20 x 1000 pound bricks. I estimated 14 for spot price (don't know the current spot price). The trucker actually was a guy that had federal clearance. Plus, he had two helicopter escorts in the air. He had radio contact with them at all times, and when my boss went out to accept the 3 pallets, he radio's to the 'copters his status.

So, I'm still trying to get that photo from my bosses phone, but should have no problem doing it. 3.2 billion (estimated)... but, let's get that photo later and have fun estimating it.

In the end, the trucker, after opening the doors, couldn't close the doors again because his load was deforming the entire truck, and he kept driving about 5 feet after unloading our 3, and trying to again, close the doors because his trailer was bending from the load.

The story is, that he is contracted all the time to bring bills down to San Antonio to have them burned. This particular load was just gold. I hope to have pics up tomorrow.

We talked about it at work, and we determind that it would take 6 guys to lift a 1k brick. And, how in the world can you get 6 guys around a small brick. Just won't happen. Crazy story. I wish I was there. photos soon.

This kind of makes me wonder! A truck with 2 helicopter escorts, charged with delivering 3.2 billion in gold bars, stops to drop off 3 pallets ? And a questionable lock on the truck door. I think one of my legs is longer now.

"crowned" trailers will flatten out under heavy loads but should still remain square.

I do find it odd that the driver had other stops but then again the Goverment is involved

Please explain to me how a semi trailer can carry over 100,000 pounds. That more than double a typical full load.

Not likely that it was, but a Turnpike Double can weigh up to 147,000lbs which would be around 110,000 cargo.

It is possible this happened with permits but....who knows.

Could also of just been over weight.
One of our transporters moved 2 of our machines on one lowboy. He only had to go 5 miles but was 30,000 over! It happens.

1320fastback, if your carrier used a lowboy then there must have been a height issue too. There is is much equipment out there that will adjust weights to help make it legal for over the road. Jason, as for 100,000 lbs, that can fit into a standardized 40' container. The only problem is that you will properly blow out all of your tires but it can be done

I've move 100 of tons of overweight, over-sized cargo and all you need are the proper permits for each state. In fastback's case I think the carrier took the risk for a local move, that happens all the time too

DOT makes the most honest trucker become a professional liar . Then there are the BSer's . Amature liars that just got out of trucker school 101 .....................
You can move double loads on 5 axles with adequate equiptment and proper load placement .......... And the ability to
avoid weigh stations . There is no 'permitting' this kind of load on 5 axles .
Placement of 100k plus in a sorry box trailer like your pictures represent wouldn't make 5 miles before very bad things began to happen .

To be fair, the wheel on the truck were very well 'crushed'. And also, I don't go around lying for fun. In fact, I posted this in hopes that someone might appreciate it. Again, the guy said that only a very few drivers are permitted to haul this load. With two helicoptors over head, ... well. Believe it or not, but don't come here and call me some kind of liar. I don't appreciate it.

And the driver was telling you what he hauls? Was the driver high or just crazy? And the government hauls 3.2 billion dollars in around town and makes other deliveries too? Guess they were saving money. What would the helicopters do if someone wanted to rob the truck, drop bombs on them?

I had a' long legged large car(capable of 100mph+ sustained highway speed under load)' and high enough security clearance to get many of the 'dream loads'.

Thank you. I appreciate that. We should have taken photo's of the tires. They appeared 'flat'. In fact, that's the entire reason for the investigation... we asked him, "Hey, your tires are flat". He then expanded on his load. In fact, I did my own research, about 1k Pound gold bars, and wiki tells me that the largest one is a 500 pound ever made. I was then thinking that these bars might just be gold ingotes. Not mentioned or something like that. The general consensus around the office is, they made them that large, so to avoid theft. I mean, how in the world could a person, or even 4 people get around a small bar of this weight, and 'steal' it? You can't! It's just too heavy. You would have to have a quick hijack, with a dock high door, and then have a fork lift. And all the while, there were two helicopters overhead that could have police there in a matter of minutes. So, this kind of theft of such magnitude, would be absolutely impossible. Hence, the 1K pound bars. In fact, after he unloaded our pallets of goods, he couldn't close his doors. He had to drive a few feet at a time, so he could find the right 'level of ground', so he could close his trailer doors, just because the weight was bending his entire frame. I suspect having this kind of permit, or license, would entitle you to a big paycheck... so bending frames or bursting tires is not a problem at all cost wise.

My only regret, is that my boss didn't actually get a lot closer and take more photo's. He said he felt scared. He did saw that he say numbers in ever single ingote.

Maipenrai. You are absolutely correct. that photo of all that gold in the back of that guys truck, that I posted in this thread is fake. It is an elaborate photoshop job. I'm getting pretty darn good at photoshop if I do say so myself. It almost looks real.
